Periodically, we scour the Internet for interesting authors who would like to play Book Trivia with us.  By answering our book trivia questions, we get to learn things about the author no one else knows!  So, let’s get ready…let’s play…Book Trivia!

Today our guest author is Emilio Corsetti III, author of the true crime, I Will Ruin You: The Twisted Truth Behind the Kit Martin Murder Trial.

Thank you for playing Book Trivia with us!

In the movie Castaway, if Tom Hanks unearthed a copy of I Will Ruin You, how would that help Tom find a way off the island?

He would have written in the sand, "Joan had the phone." Hopefully, that might catch the attention of an aircraft flying overhead.

Everyone knows Miley Cyrus is the wild child in the music business.  But she read your book and wants to let you know that it changed her life for the better.  Why did your book give Miley a new lease on life?

I can't speak for Miley Cyrus, but there are examples of celebrities getting behind the wrongfully convicted: Johnny Depp, Kim Kardashian, Martin Sheen, etc.

A homeless man was caught stealing your book out of a bookstore. When asked why he did it, he opened the book and pointed a passage out. What was that passage?

The prosecution, Griffiths said, based their entire case on motive, means, and opportunity. He told the jurors that those were not elements they would find in the jury instructions or Kentucky law. He said that the prosecution wanted the jury to guess. That isn’t how the law works, he said; the prosecution is required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Chris did it. They can’t rely on speculation or the suggestion of some phantom accomplice. He added that the prosecution hadn’t met their burden of proving beyond a reasonable doubt because Kit didn’t do it.

You have a chance to appear on the hit talent show for authors, American Book Idol, and the mighty judges will determine whether your book will make it to Hollywood and become a big screenplay.  What would impress them more – your book cover, an excerpt or your best review – and why?

If the book led someone to come forward with new evidence that would lead to a new trial, that would be enough for a golden ticket.

Finally, you just got word that your book has received the 2024 NY Times Bestselling Book Award and you have to attend the ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel in Manhattan.  Anyone who’s anyone will be there and it’s your shot for stardom.  On stage, you must give an acceptance speech.  What would you say and who would you thank?

I am not a lawyer, legal expert, private detective, or law professor. I'm not even an investigative reporter. I'm just someone who believes that an injustice has occurred and hopes that writing this book and laying out the facts of the case will lead to one man's freedom.

Moments before boarding a passenger flight on 11 May 2019 as the first officer, pilot Christian “Kit” Martin, a former army ranger, was arrested by a swarm of heavily armed officers for the murders of three of his neighbors. The arrest captured global attention as Martin’s mugshot, clad in a pilot’s uniform, spread across the internet, sparking a media firestorm with headlines such as “Monster in the Cockpit.”

A combat helicopter pilot, Kit Martin had seen his life unravel after seeking a divorce. His wife’s threatening words, “If you leave me, I will ruin your life …,” overheard by his daughter, seemed to have become a grim reality, escalating to a court-martial and culminating in a high-stakes murder trial at which he was convicted.

I WILL RUIN YOU: The Twisted Truth Behind the Kit Martin Murder Trial delves into the complex circumstances behind Martin’s story. It looks beyond the sensational headlines and legal turmoil into the heart of this controversial case.
