Why did you write your book?

In 2019 I started SHEPHERD COACH NETWORK. My first book was titled SHEPHERD COACH and was specifically written for athletic coaches. FLOCK is a book that expands the audience to any leader.

What kind of message is your book trying to tell your readers?

That of the many leadership styles, being a SHEPHERD is a legit and almost paramount leadership style for followers of Jesus.

Who influenced you to write your book?

Nick Poe, the publisher of Tall Pine books.

Is it hard to publish a nonfiction book?

To many it is, but I have been fortunate to have a publisher that believes in me and what I am trying to share and leave as a legacy.

Which author(s) do you admire?

Many...but primarily Timothy Keller,Max Lucado and Gene Edwards.

Have you suffered from writer’s block and what do you do to get back on track?

Walk away, pray, concentrate on other things, exercise, intentional removal of the competitive gene in me and realize I need to do this well, not just work hard.

What would you do with an extra hour today if you could do anything you wanted?

I am blessed to have much more free time at age 71, but my greatest joy is to mentor younger leaders.

Which holiday is your favorite and why?

As a youngster it was always Christmas, for  obvious selfish reasons :-)  But as I have grown older, Easter, and the significance of that event makes it a favorite.

If we were to meet for lunch to talk books, where would we go?

Local coffee shop...WIRE AND STEAM. Quiet and good spacing.

What do you like to do for fun?

Hang with family. Follow almost all sports teams in my home state of Wisconsin. Travel.

Can you tell us about your family?

Married to Carin for 50 years. 2 awesome daughters and 6 grandkids. My wife is finishing her college degree July 11th, so proud of her going back after doing an amazing job of listening to and helping our daughters mature as woman.

What do you like the most about being an author?

Being able to challenge the next generation to think in a Jesus way that may be out of the box and personal.

What kind of advice would you give other non-fiction authors?

Hmmmm...get ready to work hard. Writing is an art form but takes time and effort beyond what you would imagine. It is also more than just getting the book published….then comes another journey of marketing, speaking etc.
