Can you tell us what your book is about?

Why did you write your book?

A young woman with a very pointy but attractive nose was sitting across from me on a bus one day. She was listening to music on her MP3, oblivious to her fellow passengers and the town passing by. Next to me was a young man with his eyes fixed on her. I was coming from a bad date and boredom and curiosity got the best of me. That’s when the “what ifs” began. “What if he was brave enough to go over to her and ask her number?”, “What if she had just had a horrible date (like the one I just had)?”, “What if her life was a series of bad dates?” And the rest is in the book.

Do you tend to base your characters on real people or are they totally from your imagination?

My characters are mostly from my imagination although sometimes I use real people as models for some aspects of their personalities.

Are you consciously aware of the plot before you begin a novel or do you discover it as you write?

Most times, I start out with a defined plot but sometimes the story shifts away from it as I write.

Does the setting play a major part in the development of your story?

Not in this story. It focuses more on the characters’ plights than the setting they’re in.

Open the book to page 69.  What is happening?

Dwight is telling Tisha why he fought with his best friend over her cousin, Drew.

Have you suffered from writer’s block and what do you do to get back on track?

Yes, I have. Well I just had to give it a break and do something else to kill time. Reading an enjoyable book seems to be the best remedy.

If we were to meet for lunch to talk books, where would we go?

A restaurant near the beach.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to read and recently I’ve taken a liking to audio books. I also love kayaking, basketball and volleyball.

What kind of advice would you give other fiction authors?

Everyone is different and therefore you need to know what works for you and use it. However, reading is always a good foundation but do not read what you do not want to write.
