Can you tell us what your new book is about?

It’s about a girl that gets tangled in a narcissistic relationship; she thinks things are going well but her cat tells a darker story.

I’ve had my own ups and downs in relationships; when I started to take dating seriously I read any relationship/dating book I could get my hands on for tips and pointers. Trouble is they didn’t delve into the darker stuff, at least the ones I read. So I did my own research over the years, experienced life events, and ended up with an idea to tell a darker relationship story through a cat’s perspective.

Can you tell us a little about your main and supporting characters?

Miller is a great person with self-esteem issues, so she is a prime target to get taken advantage of. She doesn’t really believe in herself.

Her cat Pumpkin, on the other hand, is a seasoned warrior. Miller rescues him and he takes it upon himself to always be there for her—he sees what a great person she is.

Your book doesn’t really have a location.  Can you tell us why you chose this?

I purposely left the location vague in this book because this story could happen anywhere—I didn’t want people to think, well this couldn’t happen where I live. The truth is, this happens around the world.

How long did it take you to write your book?

I tend to write pretty fast, plus I am off for the summer (teacher here!), so about two and a half weeks.

During the school year I tend to not write as much, just because my classes keep me busy. When I write a book during that time it takes me longer, like a month, to have the story where I want it.

What has been the most pivotal point of your writing life?

I published my first book in 2006, but then life got in the way: I finished college, went to grad school, and started teaching. Later on I took up inventing and grappled with that for about six years, then after an almost accident I realized I wanted to get back to my first love: writing. I’d kept up with writing over the years, honing my craft, and after that experiment I felt it was time to take my writing seriously again.

What kind of advice would you give other new adult authors?

Hire a professional editor. Seriously. There is such a huuuuge difference between your relative proofreading for you and someone with such a deep command of vernacular they can literally rip your story to shreds (in a good way) and leave you with a diamond carved out of the rough. Let your relative be a beta reader. It might be tempting to think you’ve edited the story well enough yourself, or go with a free edit, but I am telling you, it makes a world of difference when you have quality, professional editing done.

Character Guest Post: Kevin of B.A. Bellec's SOMEONE'S STORY #characterday

Today is character guest post day! We have Kevin from B.A. Bellec's Someone's Story. Enjoy!

Hi there! My name is Kevin. I am the guidance counselor at Riverside High. I like to provide examples from my life as a way to help anyone who comes through my doors deal with their stress.

My weekend hobby is running. In fact, I run lots. I figured we could read one of my chapters from Someone’s Story together and I will give you some insights.

I was taking part in the Bigfoot 200. It’s an extreme weather ultramarathon through the mountains. I was a good way in and exhausted. The weather was horrible.

My supplies were running down. My water bottle was empty. I was lost.

I sat down and thought about pulling out my GPS to signal for help. When I sat down my tattoo slipped out.

This tattoo is a reminder of every failure I ever had. The people, projects, and jobs I left behind. Ever since I got that tattoo, I said I would never quit again.

And so I picked myself back up…and I started running…one foot after the other…just another day at the office.

In his debut endearing coming-of-age book, B.A. Bellec writes about a group of weirdos that find and save each other from the dark depths of their minds. Someone’s Story is literally Someone’s story, as in a first-person narrative of a teenager that calls himself Someone. As he struggles to find a new footing in a new space, we encounter the many ups and downs of modern teenage life, the difficulties that adjusting to adult feelings bring, and a few tear-jerking surprises along the way.

Littered with music, mental health, friendship, loss, meditation, advice, pop culture, and even inspiring an EP, there is so much nostalgia, inspiration, and depth here it is hard to absorb it all. Cozy up somewhere warm and enjoy!

“B. A. Bellec has crafted a masterpiece of emotive and well-rounded young adult fiction.”
K.C. Finn – Author

“The variety of personages, situations, and mental illnesses represented allows all readers to relate to this book and take something away from reading! This novel is on our list of all-time favourites!”
International Girls and Books

“Someone’s Story is a beautiful novel, written in great prose, very descriptive, and filled with insights about life. The author does an incredible job with themes of family, friendship, bullying, and personal development. It felt like I was reading a portion of my emotions and myself in Someone’s Story.”

Author of Someone’s Story and co-collaborator on the music it inspired, B.A. was born in Richmond, BC and raised in Langley, BC, before settling in Winnipeg, MB. His first adventure was a career in Finance, where he spent 15 years developing his business skills. His highest achievement was the Certified Payroll Manager designation. He currently still consults with businesses on their systems and processes. Over that period of time, he also attended film school where he started to nurture his early creative abilities.

A self-starter always interested in research, he taught himself many of the aspects of storytelling through reading books, screenplays and material online. Whenever he found an inspirational piece of art, he quickly went to the source to find the story behind the artist who created the work. It took many years after attending film school for him to finally combine his creative skills with his life experience and tell that story he had been holding back. Some of his favorite creative people: Lukas Rossi, Justin Furstenfeld, Peter Jackson, Stephen Chbosky, John Green, J.K. Rowling.

Currently he is pounding away on the keyboard writing his second novel, Pulse. This project is a change of pace and more details will come in a few months!

B.A. is also an avid jogger and walker, frequently using them as a way to work on those tough spots in life and his manuscripts. If you found it this far into his material, reach out to him on Twitter and make sure to like and subscribe to get updates on all his future endeavors.

Guest post by Marilea C. Rabasa, Author of 'Stepping Stones: A Memoir of Addiction, Loss, and Transformation'

Dear Reader,

Writing a memoir is a bit like taking pictures of my life with the same camera—but with different lenses. And so reconciling these two elements—seeing my life as it was and then viewing it, or aspects of it, from a fresh perspective—is what distinguishes the memoir genre from many others. In my experience with life-writing, it’s the change that happens to the writer when these two elements collide that provides some of the most thrilling takeaways in literature. Many people want to read books with the most salient lessons.

And yet, this genre of writing can be a tricky one. It’s like exploring in a cave. How much do we see on those walls of rock? How bright is the flashlight we are holding? We’re walking from daylight into a dark space, trying to see what’s there. But we are not the same person we were last year, or when we were a young child. We might interpret what’s etched into those rocks very differently now.

Memoir is about the truth of memory, not of history. It’s not about what happened to us so much as our perception of those events.

Memoir is indeed a difficult medium to master. And we will pick and choose what we want to gnaw on.  With the eyes of a child I used to be terribly angry with many people in my life: my parents, my siblings, and others. My memory was biased and I viewed things in absolutes—with the unrelenting eyes of a child.

As a parent myself who has struggled with my own children more than my parents ever did, I know only too well that they did the best they could. I understand them and see them as complete human beings, and above all well intentioned, just as I see myself now—but no longer with the eyes of a child.

The passage of time and the perspective it brings have enabled me to see my early years in a different light.  My brother, sister and I enjoyed many privileges that I’m glad to focus on now. Our parents, under trying circumstances, always wanted to ensure our wellbeing. And though it’s taken me many years to recover from the effects of my father’s alcoholism and overcome the depression that had plagued me throughout my life, I can view things through a broader set of lenses and be grateful now l for a truly extraordinary life.

All my best to you,

Can you tell us what your new book is about?

Thank you for hosting me and my latest novel HOW THE DEER MOON HUNGERS on As the Page Turns. HOW THE DEER MOON HUNGERS is, at its core, a story about a family who suffers the loss of one of their children―their seven-year-old daughter―and how they deal with that loss.

Can you tell us a little about your main and supporting characters?

MacKenzie Fraser is Tessa’s older sister. Mac is sixteen when the story starts. Tessa is seven years old. Mac witnesses the death of Tessa and becomes the focal point of criminal charges that have nothing to do with Tessa but that end her up in juvenile detention.

Your book is set in Friday Harbor.  Can you tell us why you chose this location in particular?

HOW THE DEER MOON HUNGERS is set in Friday Harbor, where I live. I love this place and love writing about it. Maybe because I want other people to know it even if they can only read about Friday Harbor, I hope my love for this place shows through. DEER MOON is the fifth in a series I’ve coined Friday Harbor novels.

How long did it take you to write your book?

I started writing DEER MOON in September 2018 and finished it―fully edited by May 2019. I finished the first draft in February 2018. The editor was available two months later and that’s why finished the story straggled out into May.

What has been the most pivotal point of your writing life?

Suffering the loss of my mother and my special dog, Robert were pivotal points in my life and my writing career. I couldn’t write for months after each of their deaths. I just had nothing to give. But that’s how grief is. And that’s why I write about loss and grief and recovery. My wish is that people will see when they read my work that each story holds a sense of hope.

What kind of advice would you give other YA authors?

Be patient with yourself. Be kind and open to all the nuances each writer has that are distinctly their own. Never compare yourself to other writers. As with fingerprints, no two writers are the same. We’re as unique as snowflakes and equally fragile.

Can you tell us what your book is about?

”From tragic to magic,” says Harriet Tinka.

And in the process, they discovered “The Secrets to Living A Fantastic Life.“ They discovered 13 metaphorical Golden Pearls of wisdom to make a fantastic life. And you can have a fantastic life, too, without the hardship they have gone through.

Let’s explore 3 of these Golden Pearls. Here are three:
2.                  Golden Pearl # 5 - Intention (purpose)- Ellen Degeneres said, “I believe we have all been put on this planet for a purpose and we all have a different purpose. When you connect that with love and compassion that’s when everything unfolds.” She is quoted on page 51
3.                  Golden Pearl #12, Empowerment, Harriet Tinka, former NY runway model says, “Above all, be the hero in your life and not a victim.”

Why did you write your book?

When a person comes close to death, they experience life differently. Either they become a victim and assume a victim mentality or they decide to be a victor, and helps others who may be in difficult times. Harriet and I chose the latter path and decided to make a difference.

What kind of message is your book trying to tell your readers?

I think this is best summed up by Epitectus, a Greek stoic philosopher who lived from 5-=135 AD. He wrote: “It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens.”

Who influenced you to write your book?

There are several who helped influence. Perhaps, one of the most notable, was Jack Canfield, the NYT bestseller of Chicken Soup For The Soul. He invited Harriet and Dr. Lycka to his home in Santa Barbara, California, and together they put together the ideas that formed the current book.  As a result, Jack wrote the foreward for them.

But there were other influencers, too. Dr. Lycka was influenced by Brendon Burchard, the world’s leading high performance coach, a 3-time New York Times bestselling author, and one of the most-watched, quoted, and followed personal development trainers in history. SUCCESS Magazine and O, The Oprah Magazine, have both named him one of the most influential leaders in personal growth and achievement.  Forbes named him the world’s leading high performance coach and Larry King named him the world’s top motivational trainer. Dr. Lycka was a member of his mastermind club for 2 years.

Harriet Tinka was influenced by Maya Angelou and Mary Tyler Moore. You can find about this and more in their book, The Secrets To Living A Fantastic Life.

Is it hard to publish a nonfiction book?

Well, it is difficult but doable for a person motivated to do so.

Have you suffered from writer’s block and what do you do to get back on track?

Yes, the trick is to write everyday. Writing is not hard. But there is no such thing as good writing, only rewriting.

What do you like the most about being an author?

I like to share my insights and perspectives and hearing from others when I helped yhem.

What kind of advice would you give other non-fiction authors?

Keep at it. It pays off

I WONDER
I wonder, would they miss me?
If one day I decided Id grown tired of trying
And wanted nothing more To do with this cruel, cruel world If I woke up one morning too weary Of being called sissy and faggot Too ashamed of living day-to-day in this skin Because no one seems to understand me They have no interest at all In comprehending my daily struggles Just because I walk the way I walk
And talk the way I talk
Does that give anyone the right to exclude me? Or find humor in my uniqueness? Is it even ethical to taunt a timid soul Already on the brink of destruction?

Daryl-Jarod is an Amazon best-selling author, recording artist, and actor. Born and raised in Hopkins, South Carolina, he always had big dreams of pursuing a career in entertainment.

As a child he’d write short stories and songs, which later aided him in transitioning into the talented storyteller he is today. His writing career all began with a short poem he composed in third grade entitled, “My Teacher is Neat”, which was selected to be featured in a publication of poems from talented students throughout the state. Interview with Nonfiction Christian Author Rev. Terry Allan Christian @revtchristian #Interview #blogtour

Since dedicating his life to Jesus at the age of 23, Terry Allan Christian has been reading the red lettered version of the 4 Gospels as recorded in the KJV Bible. Even though Terry reads the whole Bible, his primary focus is on the words of Jesus and the example of His actions.

Terry grew up in a violent dysfunctional family where he quit school at 16 and left home. He stuttered so bad he could only say 3-5 words in a row. His family and friends mocked him and that caused much stress in his early life.

At the age of 23, he had a near death experience and in which he had a dream. In this dream, he was told that one day he would be a teacher for Jesus. Needless to say, he was scared at first because of his stuttering and lack of structured education however, he always had a child-like faith and trust in Jesus as Lord.

After the dream, he was soon hired by the Dale Carnegie Organization and trained in sales and public speaking, where he met a man who taught him how to visually read. During the next few years Terry read several hundred books on the subject of personal growth.

At the age of 30, Terry became a professional Motivational Speaker and Executive Trainer and over the next 20 years he would deliver more than 2,500 presentations to private and public audiences across America and Canada.

Several years ago, Terry retired as a public speaker after feeling the Holy Spirit redirecting his life. He was led to do what Jesus told him many years earlier. After researching the 4 Gospels he composed the book What Did Jesus Say: The Seven Messages from the Master, using only the Words spoken by Jesus as recorded in the 4 Gospels, without adding any personal comments or opinions.
As in all God called missions it took longer, cost more and challenged him to the edge of his faith. He would later say, he had to read the Book of Job just to understand why this was happening to him and was he being tested or penalized. In the end, he was being tested and by the grace of God, he prevailed.

Now after 12 years of study, obedience, difficulty and struggle, this book is now available in Paperback, eBook, Audio Book and Kindle.

Today, Author and Counselor, Rev. Terry Christian is founder of Foundations for Life ‘Online’ Ministries and he presently lives at Negril Jamaica where he does local missionary work in schools and churches while counseling Christians worldwide online thru his program Christians Helping Christians.

Negril, Jamaica is where Rev. Christian went to fast & pray while seeking divine healing for Bladder Cancer. His doctors gave him 3yrs to live so he created a healing sabbatical and after fasting & praying, and walking the beach for 21 days, he returned to his Doctors and they released him ‘cancer free’.

Terry calls this program: The Life Walk –aka- The Miracle Walk and now offers this ‘restoration’ program online or in Negril, for everyone seeking Life, Health or Marriage Restoration.
Terry believes: WITH GOD, all things are possible, all the time, wherever we live and at every given moment, when we pray, believing.

About the Book

This incredible book organizes the teachings of Jesus using only the words spoken by Jesus and
nothing more. The book puts readers into an imagined walk with Jesus on the beach, allowing readers to hear over 500 passages spoken by Him as recorded in the 4 Gospels.

“I was asked one time, where did this book idea come from?” says Christian.

“Well, when I was suddenly called away from motivational speaking at the top of my business career, I knew, I was being called to do what Jesus told me, 30yrs earlier. When I asked Jesus what He wanted me to do that wasn’t already being done, Jesus said; ‘Tell them, what I told them and nothing more, add no comments or opinions.’ With those instructions, I composed What Did Jesus Say: The Seven Messages from the Master containing over 500 scriptures spoken only by Jesus to those who loved and followed Him and I’ve added no opinions or comments. Whoever reads this book will know and understand what Jesus said to those who loved and followed Him and what’s expected from those who call Him their Lord and Savior.

Featuring the “best of the best” of what Jesus said, this book is a ‘one of a kind’. The scriptures, stripped of everything save for the words spoken by Jesus, have been composed into seven primary messages and serves as a daily Teaching Devotional.

The encouragement of his mother, teachers, and peers, pushed him to continue writing.

Years later, he is now the author of Silk, an acclaimed erotic series that debuted atop of Amazon’s Best-Seller Erotica charts. With many more book releases in the works, he has also displayed his skills as a singer-songwriter and rapper on his debut mixtape, “The Liberation of Daryl-Jarod”. Despite consistently maintaining a busy schedule, he always kept his acting goals in sight as he graduated from Coker College with a BA in Theatre Performance.

Daryl-Jarod is hard at work promoting his latest and most personal offering, Pain in My Heart.
